Your subscription helps cover real costs like SMS delivery, AI processing, data licensing costs, and server infrastructure. It also lets us build a product that serves you, not advertisers.

We only charge you for messages that SmarterDumbphone sends you, not messages that you send us. We count up the number of messages we send you every month since the start of your subscription, and reset the counter when the same day of the subsequent month rolls around.

We change message caps for different regions because one of our largest costs is the cost to send and receive text messages to users, and that price is set by the telecom operators in each country and varies wildly. In some cases, we have to spend $0.025 for each message exchange, and in other cases we have to spend close to $1.00! That obviously changes how we can charge for our product in different countries and how we balance between the messages that are included by default in the subscription and additional credits that are charged with usage beyond the included amount.

We'll send you a warning that you're about to go over your cap, and if you do, we'll charge you a small amount for additional message credits that you can use at any time (message credits don't expire).

Any phone that can send and receive text messages works with SmarterDumbphone—including flip phones, minimalist phones, and landlines that support texting.
